Why Connecticut Homeowners Choose James Hardie Siding

Connecticut’s climate puts serious stress on exterior materials. Snow, ice, humidity, and temperature swings can quickly wear down traditional siding. James Hardie siding is specifically designed to outperform other options in demanding environments like New England’s climate.

Why James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding is your best choice?

Benefits of James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding:

✔ Resistant to moisture, rot, and pests
✔ Non-combustible and fire-resistant
✔ Won’t warp or sag in heat
✔ Authentic wood appearance without the maintenance
✔ Long-lasting ColorPlus® factory finish
✔ Improves home value and curb appeal
✔ Built for freeze/thaw cycles common in Connecticut

It’s one of the smartest exterior upgrades for New England homes.

James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding Durability

James Hardie siding excels as one of the strongest choices when compared to other wall coverings. Unlike vinyl siding, which is prone to fracturing in freezing weather or warping in relentless heat, fiber cement is substantially thicker and remarkably resistant to impacts, weathering, and fluctuating temperatures. Unlike wood siding, which is prone to rot, warping, and damage from pests like termites or carpenter ants, fiber cement is moisture-proof and pest-resistant, ensuring long-lasting stability. Compared with engineered wood siding, which includes resins and waxes that can degrade over time, fiber cement is more resistant to water absorption. It does not enlarge or deteriorate in humid conditions.

One of its biggest advantages Of James Hardie Siding is its fireproofing—while plastic melts, wood burns, and engineered wood can still be combustible, fiber cement is completely non-flammable, adding an extra layer of safety. With superior durability, resistance to the elements, and lower long-term maintenance costs, James Hardie fiber cement siding is a savvy investment that outperforms most traditional wall coverings

FAQ about James Hardie Siding

How much does James Hardie siding cost to install in Connecticut?

James Hardie fiber cement siding installation in Connecticut typically ranges from $15,000 to $35,000+ for a full home, depending on square footage, the product line chosen, and the complexity of your home’s architecture. James Hardie products are priced higher than vinyl siding upfront, but their durability, low maintenance requirements, and 30-year warranty make them a superior long-term investment. Marut Home Improvement provides free, detailed written estimates for homeowners throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties — so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins. Call us at 203-895-5055 to schedule yours.

Why is James Hardie siding the best choice for Connecticut homes?

Connecticut’s climate is demanding — freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow, summer humidity, and nor’easters all put serious stress on exterior materials. James Hardie fiber cement siding is specifically engineered for Northeast weather conditions. It resists moisture, rot, pests, and fire, and unlike vinyl siding it won’t crack in freezing temperatures or warp in summer heat. Its factory-applied ColorPlus® Technology finish is baked on, not painted, which means it holds its color far longer than field-painted siding. For Connecticut homeowners, it’s one of the smartest exterior investments available.

What James Hardie products does Marut Home Improvement install?

We install the full range of James Hardie products, including HardiePlank® lap siding — the most popular choice for Connecticut homes — as well as HardieShingle® for a classic New England cedar shake look, and HardiePanel® for vertical applications (board and batten) and modern design aesthetics. We’ll help you choose the right product and ColorPlus® color palette to complement your home’s architecture and your neighborhood during your free consultation.

Can Marut Home Improvement install James Hardie over my existing siding?

To ensure the 30-year warranty remains valid, we typically recommend a full “tear-off.” This allows our team to inspect your home’s sheathing for rot or damage and install a proper weather barrier (like HardieWrap®). Doing it right the first time is how we ensure your Connecticut home stays protected for decades.

How long does a siding replacement project take?

A typical siding replacement for a standard-sized home in Connecticut takes about 1 to 2 weeks. This timeline includes the removal of old materials, installing the moisture barrier, and the precision cutting and hanging of your new James Hardie planks.

How does James Hardie siding compare to vinyl siding in CT?

Both are popular choices in Connecticut, but they serve different needs. Vinyl siding like CertainTeed  is more affordable upfront and requires zero painting, but it can crack in extreme cold, fade over time, and doesn’t add as much resale value. James Hardie fiber cement is significantly more durable, impact-resistant, fire-resistant, and carries a 30-year warranty. It also closely replicates the look of real wood, which is highly valued in Fairfield County’s traditional New England neighborhoods. If budget allows, most homeowners who invest in James Hardie never look back.

Will James Hardie siding increase my home's value in Fairfield County?

Yes, significantly. James Hardie fiber cement siding consistently ranks among the top exterior upgrades for return on investment in national remodeling reports, typically returning 75–90% of its cost in added home value at resale. In Fairfield County’s competitive real estate market — where curb appeal and quality materials are highly valued by buyers — a James Hardie installation can meaningfully differentiate your home and justify a higher listing price. It’s also a strong selling point because the 30-year warranty is transferable to a new owner.

Do I need a permit for James Hardie siding installation in Connecticut?

Yes, most full siding replacement projects in Connecticut require a building permit. Requirements vary slightly by town — whether you’re in Shelton, Trumbull, Norwalk, Westport, or Fairfield — but the permit process is generally straightforward for siding work. Marut Home Improvement handles the entire permitting process on your behalf, coordinating with your local building department so you don’t have to deal with any paperwork. We ensure all work meets Connecticut state building codes from start to finish.

Why Choose Marut Home Improvement for James Hardie Siding Installation?

Most siding contractors will send a crew and a project manager you’ve never met. At Marut Home Improvement, that’s not how we work.

Chris Marut is on every job — not just for the estimate, but through the entire installation. He’s the one assessing your home, selecting the cuts, solving the problems that come up mid-project, and doing the final walkthrough with you. When you call, you reach him directly.

That approach matters more than it sounds. Older Connecticut homes in particular have a way of presenting surprises once the old siding comes off — rotted sheathing, irregular trim profiles, framing issues that need to be addressed before anything goes back on. A crew that’s just executing a quote will often cut corners or upsell you on the spot. Chris works through those moments with you, explains your options clearly, and finds solutions that make sense for your home and your budget.

It’s also why our reviews say what they say. Customers don’t write things like “he came back on a Sunday to finish the job” or “he had to custom-cut pieces to match siding that no longer exists in that size” about a contractor who’s just managing from a distance. That’s what genuine ownership of a project looks like.

Chris and his team were great - Chris was very responsive throughout the project and they had the most reasonable quote out of about 6-7 companies I contacted. They performed a whole house siding job, and installed new gutters. Before (white) and after (blue) pictures included.

Chris was great to work with and did a fantastic job on our home’s gutters and replacement of rotting siding. He tackled some complications and challenges that our reproduction Cape presented him with ease and creative solutions, including having to cut and router several siding pieces to match existing which was no longer available in that size. He even returned on a Sunday to finish the job! Couldn’t be happier with the results. Without hesitation, I recommend Marut Home Improvement for any project you may be considering. Chris is that good!

We live in an antique reproduction home situated on a very treed piece of property. Over the years some of the wooden siding had gotten a little punky and needed to be replaced. The antique look of this house is very important to us, and Chris of Marut Home Improvement completely understood the look we were going for with the repairs. This project was not without its challenges, but Chris completed the work with precision, on time and on budget. When problems arose as they do with older homes, he explained different options so we could find a solution everyone was happy with. We also had gutters installed by Chris in a way that they will ultimately "disappear" and blend in with the rest of the house. He graciously fit us in to his schedule so our home will be Holiday ready. I recommend Chris Marut for your next Home Improvement project!

Chris did a great job fixing our gutters, adding leaf guards, and fixed some damaged siding. Pricing is reasonable and was great at getting back to us/communicating by text which makes everything easier. Will definitely work with him again on future home improvement projects.

Chris and his team completed the siding on my house last Summer and completely transformed our home. 5 Stars. He and his team were very respectful, neat, and efficient as the job was completed in just a few weeks. They even removed a small deck and closed off a wall unit AC all for a very reasonable price. I have recommended Marut Home Improvement to lots of my family and friends!
