Requirements vary by town across Connecticut, but whether your home is in Shelton, Westport, or Milford, we know your local building department’s process and handle all the paperwork from start to finish.

🪟 Siding Questions

What type of siding is best for Connecticut homes? For Connecticut’s climate — heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycles, humidity, and Nor’easters — James Hardie fiber cement and CertainTeed vinyl siding are the two most popular and proven choices. James Hardie excels in durability, impact resistance, and authentic curb appeal. CertainTeed vinyl is more affordable, requires virtually zero maintenance, and offers an enormous range of colors and styles. We’ll help you compare both options honestly during your free estimate.

How much does new siding cost in Fairfield County, CT? Most full siding replacements in Connecticut range from $12,000 to $25,000+, depending on your home’s size, the material you choose, and any underlying repairs needed. Vinyl siding is the most affordable option, while James Hardie fiber cement costs more upfront but offers superior long-term durability. We provide free detailed written estimates so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.

How long does siding installation take? Most single-family siding projects in Fairfield and New Haven Counties are completed in 7 to 10 days. Timeline depends on home size, architectural complexity, weather, and whether sheathing repairs are needed. We provide a clear project schedule upfront so there are no surprises.

Do I need a permit for siding replacement in Connecticut? Yes. Most siding replacement projects in Connecticut require a building permit. Marut Home Improvement handles all permitting on your behalf so you don’t have to navigate your town’s building department on your own.

What siding brands do you install? We install James Hardie fiber cement siding and CertainTeed vinyl siding as our primary product lines, along with engineered wood and composite siding options. For CertainTeed, we work with the full range including Monogram, Cedar Impressions, MainStreet, and STONEfaçade. We’ll help you choose the right product for your home, budget, and long-term goals.

🏚️ Roofing Questions

How do I know if I need a roof replacement or a repair? If damage is limited to a small area — a few missing shingles or an isolated leak — a repair is usually the smarter choice. If your roof is over 20 years old, has widespread deterioration, shows signs of sagging, or has had repeated leaks in multiple locations, a full replacement is likely the better long-term investment. We provide free honest inspections and will always tell you which option genuinely makes sense for your home.

on the size and pitch of your roof, your material choice, and whether any decking repairs are needed underneath. Architectural asphalt shingles are the most affordable option, while metal, cedar shake, and premium designer shingles come at a higher price point. We provide free detailed written estimates for all homeowners in our service area.

What roofing materials do you install? We install architectural asphalt shingles (GAF and premium brands), standing seam and steel metal roofing, cedar shake roofing, flat and low-slope EPDM membrane systems, and copper accents and flashings. We’ll walk you through the best option for your home’s style, budget, and Connecticut’s specific weather demands.

Does homeowners insurance cover roof damage in Connecticut? In most cases, yes — if the damage was caused by a covered event such as a windstorm, hail, heavy snow, or a fallen tree. Normal wear and tear is typically not covered. We are experienced in working alongside insurance claims and can help document the damage to support your case. Contact your insurance provider as soon as damage occurs.

What is ice-and-water shield and does my roof need it? Ice-and-water shield is a waterproof membrane installed beneath your shingles along the roof’s eaves and valleys. In Connecticut, it is required by state building code because ice dams — a common winter problem — can force water back up under shingles and into your home. Marut Home Improvement installs ice-and-water shield on every roofing project as a standard part of our process.

🌧️ Gutters Questions

Why are gutters important for Connecticut homes? Connecticut’s wet springs, heavy summer rains, and winter ice and snow make properly functioning gutters essential for protecting your home’s foundation, landscaping, siding, and fascia boards from water damage. Clogged or failing gutters are one of the leading causes of basement flooding and foundation issues in Fairfield County homes.

What type of gutters do you install? We install seamless aluminum gutters, which are custom-fabricated on-site to fit your home exactly — eliminating the leak-prone seams found in sectional gutters. We also install copper gutters for a premium, elegant look, and a full range of gutter guard systems to keep debris out and water flowing freely year-round.

What are gutter guards and do I need them? Gutter guards are covers or inserts installed over your gutters to prevent leaves, pine needles, and debris from clogging them. For Connecticut homeowners surrounded by trees — common throughout Easton, Newtown, Monroe, and wooded neighborhoods across Fairfield County — gutter guards dramatically reduce cleaning frequency and help prevent ice dam formation in winter. We’ll assess your home’s situation and give you an honest recommendation.

🪵 Deck Questions

How much does a new deck cost in Connecticut? Deck costs typically range from $35 to $100+ per square foot depending on size, materials, and design complexity. A basic pressure-treated wood deck will land toward the lower end, while a multi-level composite deck with cable railings will run higher. We provide free detailed written estimates for all deck projects throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties.

Which is better — composite or wood decking in Connecticut? Both are solid options. Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech) handles Connecticut’s climate exceptionally well — it resists moisture, UV fading, and freeze-thaw damage without annual maintenance. Pressure-treated wood is more affordable upfront and offers a classic look, but requires periodic sealing and staining. We’ll walk you through both options honestly at your free estimate.

Do I need a permit for a deck in Connecticut? Yes. Most deck projects in Connecticut — including new builds, significant repairs, and resurfacing projects — require a building permit from your local town building department. Marut Home Improvement handles the entire permitting process on your behalf, including final inspection coordination.

🪟 Windows & Doors Questions

What window brands do you install? We install energy-efficient windows and doors from trusted manufacturers suited to Connecticut’s climate. Ask us about current product options during your free estimate — we’ll match the right product to your home’s style, energy efficiency goals, and budget.

How do I know if my windows need replacing? Common signs include drafts around frames, condensation or fogging between panes, difficulty opening or closing, visible rot or warping, and noticeably higher heating or cooling bills. Connecticut winters put significant stress on older windows — if your windows are more than 20 years old and showing any of these signs, a replacement consultation is well worth it.

📞 Contact & Scheduling

What should I expect during my free estimate visit? We visit your home at a time that works for you, assess the project area, take measurements, and walk you through your material options and recommendations. You’ll receive a clear, detailed written quote within a few days of the visit — no hidden fees, no pressure, and no obligation to move forward.

How soon can my project start after signing? In most cases, projects can begin within two to four weeks of signing, depending on our current schedule and your town’s permitting timeline. We’ll give you a clear start date and project schedule before any work begins.

Chris and his team were great - Chris was very responsive throughout the project and they had the most reasonable quote out of about 6-7 companies I contacted. They performed a whole house siding job, and installed new gutters. Before (white) and after (blue) pictures included.
Chris was great to work with and did a fantastic job on our home’s gutters and replacement of rotting siding. He tackled some complications and challenges that our reproduction Cape presented him with ease and creative solutions, including having to cut and router several siding pieces to match existing which was no longer available in that size. He even returned on a Sunday to finish the job! Couldn’t be happier with the results. Without hesitation, I recommend Marut Home Improvement for any project you may be considering. Chris is that good!
We live in an antique reproduction home situated on a very treed piece of property. Over the years some of the wooden siding had gotten a little punky and needed to be replaced. The antique look of this house is very important to us, and Chris of Marut Home Improvement completely understood the look we were going for with the repairs. This project was not without its challenges, but Chris completed the work with precision, on time and on budget. When problems arose as they do with older homes, he explained different options so we could find a solution everyone was happy with. We also had gutters installed by Chris in a way that they will ultimately "disappear" and blend in with the rest of the house. He graciously fit us in to his schedule so our home will be Holiday ready. I recommend Chris Marut for your next Home Improvement project!
Chris did a great job fixing our gutters, adding leaf guards, and fixed some damaged siding. Pricing is reasonable and was great at getting back to us/communicating by text which makes everything easier. Will definitely work with him again on future home improvement projects.
Chris and his team completed the siding on my house last Summer and completely transformed our home. 5 Stars. He and his team were very respectful, neat, and efficient as the job was completed in just a few weeks. They even removed a small deck and closed off a wall unit AC all for a very reasonable price. I have recommended Marut Home Improvement to lots of my family and friends!
